Trocar

The trocar is a small medical instrument and best compared to an awl from our toolbox. It consists of a hollow needle, containing the awl with three cutting edges. The trocar is pricked into a body cavity to clear it of water or pus.

Doctor Scheidelaar from Hilvarenbeek received a farmer at his surgery who had made his own trocar from a rabbit bone to remove fluid from a swollen scrotum. That trocar is now kept in Museum de Dorpsdokter.
