A poop box in a museum? Yes indeed. Even into the twentieth century, hygiene was in a poor state. Sometimes twenty families had to make do with just one poop box. No wonder infectious diseases like cholera claimed so many victims.
Museum De Dorpsdokter has two nineteenth-century poop boxes in its possession. In the video, Marie Blommaart - aged 102 in 2023 - tells how the periodic cleaning of the poop box was done at her home.
