The forceps

The forceps can be used to speed up childbirth. Obstetricians then refer to this as forceps delivery. The work must be done carefully. Very even pressure must be applied with the two spoons.

Don't squeeze!

Squeezing should be avoided, which would lead to damage to the head. Once the doctor is sure the forceps are in place, he very gently pulls out the baby's head. However, the risks are so great that nowadays forceps delivery is rarely used.
