Term disc
A term disc is used to determine the correct date of partus. The cardboard disc in the photo was made by Beek GP Harry Ruhe. It is sometimes referred to as a 'pregnancy wheel'. The disc is used to estimate when the delivery will take place, based on the first day of the last menstruation. This is usually after 40 weeks. Because the disc is not 100 per cent accurate, the date is determined again after 10 or 12 weeks with an accurate term echo. Such an ultrasound is exciting for parents. It is actually the first introduction to their baby.
