Shearling

A barber used to be called a 'barber'. That name comes from the Latin 'barba', beard. In the shaving basin, the barber made the soap foam for shaving a customer. In many cases, the barber was also a surgeon, which is Greek for 'craftsman'. In this function, he worked together with the doctore. The division of labour was simple; the doctore made the diagnosis, the barber did the treatment. Venesection was one of the barber's regular jobs and the shaving basin took care of collecting the blood that was released.
