The state of the average set of teeth in our country was deplorable. Dentures were therefore perfectly normal around 1900. Buying dentures was also relatively cheap. Many people in their twenties received dentures as a present for their birthday. Those who had no money at all had to make do without teeth. By the way, the oldest dentures were clumsy things. The two parts below and above were connected with springs. Teeth from horses, donkeys and goats were often used for dentures.
