Percussion hammer
In 1761, Austrian doctor Leopold Auenbrugger discovered direct percussion: he could tap out a body cavity such as the chest cavity with his fingers. He could thus hear a hollow, a sonorous or a muffled sound, which could indicate a particular ailment. Percussion as an investigative technique was born! Later, a German improved this technique in 1841 with this elegant percussion hammer. The hammer is also called a reflex hammer because the doctor can use it to make the knee tendon reflex respond.
