Medicine box
On 28 July 1899, 23-year-old Adriana Maria Vos died of tuberculosis. From her, the museum owns a pillbox from the firm De Zwolsche apotheek. The lid reads 'use known'. Nowadays, this is no longer permitted. A patient must be able to read in a leaflet what, how and when to use a medicine. This box has a gold rim around the label, indicating the prevailing class distinction. Adriana's father was director of a post office and could afford the pharmacy pills just fine. People from the lower classes got a box without a gold rim.
